Puppet Shows Help Hispanic Health Council Promote Proper Nutrition

For more than a decade, the PANA Program (Programa para Aprender Nutrición y Alimentación) has provided culturally relevant nutrition education in the form of puppet shows, jeopardy games and interactive educational sessions. The program also develops and distributes culturally relevant educational materials and social marketing campaigns. Hispanic Health Council delivers over 400 shows a year to young students in Bridgeport, Hartford, New Britain, New Haven, New London, Norwich and Waterbury public schools. The program operates in partnership with the University of Connecticut.

Educational Materials:

To spread the word about good nutrition, the Hispanic Health Council has produced several fun and easy-to-understand booklets. One is a coloring book for children called From Farm to Table. The booklets are modeled after fotonovelas, picture books popular in Latin America that use photographs and dialog to tell romantic stories. The books, available in English and Spanish, have been used across the country.
